We are situated in The heart of London’s Notting Hill, very close to the famous Portobello market ( still the best place to buy vintage in London.) Our store is on 3 levels, the ground floor and upper level are put together by our sister company Couverture. Strictly independent we do not carry any clothing that has been bought up and sold out. All of our suppliers are like us. Fighting hard the monsters of the corporation, standing up for quality and better days.
In Spring 2008 Couverture relocated from its original site in Chelsea to the heart of Notting Hill. It re-opened as the concept store “Couverture & The Garbstore”. Launching to critical acclaim with The Times voting it Cult Shop in 2008, the store is now firmly established as one of London’s premier shopping destinations.
The ground and galleried first floors are dedicated to the Couverture collections and include womenswear and accessories, children’s and baby-wear, toys, jewelry, home accessories, furniture and covetable vintage finds.
The mix of International and European fashion labels result in languid dressing from Humanoid, signature boyfriend shirting from Steven Alan and innovative tailoring from Rachel Comey. Cool modern styling for children can be found in collections by Album di Famiglia and Simple Kids whilst unique home accessories include painstakingly embroidered heart shaped cushions from Africa and one-off ceramic sculptures by cult French artist Nathalie Lete.
The lower ground floor sees Ian Paley’s menswear brand, “Garbstore” come to life with a cutting edge collection of classic unfamiliar vintage items and accessories.
The philosophy of the Garbstore label is richly ensconced in the history of clothing produced after the Second World War and draws influence from what can be coined “Unfamiliar Vintage”, familiar garments that reference the past but with a modern edge. For example jeans and trousers are tailored with fifties grip tape, all buttons are Tri-hole and sweats and tees follow vintage models. In essence pieces are re-imagined and made “historically new”.
The Garsbtore also sells a selection of casual and reproduction clothing from cult international labels such as Monitaly, Mountain Research, Post Overalls, Bedwin & The heartbreakers, shirts and accessories by Engineered Garments and shoes by Seavees and Pointer, many of these labels exclusive to Couverture & The Garbstore in the UK. Garbstore collections are available in our online store.
The culmination of Couverture & The Garbstore’s unique style being showcased under one roof has guaranteed Couverture & The Garbstore’s status as a favourite haunt for both fashion and interiors stylists, as well as for the discerning customer.
